My Dilemma

My monkey wants a style change. A mohawk. I'm struggling with this decision. I'm not sure why...I suppose it's a stigma thing, and that irritates me as well. I have always let the kids express themselves stylewise, Jack had long hair, Alexa dressed in dress-up clothes for two years...but a mohawk? I took him to get his hairs cut, and got a fauxhawk, but it isn't satisfactory. Not spiky enough, or bald enough. Oh, what to do. Part of my issue is that he has a little bit if a 'rep' at school. He can be a little impulsive(hits), and very energetic. He has grown up and improved so much I am afraid a mohawk would be the final straw in a kind of tender situation. I am lobbying to wait until school is out...Husband wants to go ahead, but he went to boarding school from the age of seven and loves to let the kids make these "creative calls" since he was never allowed to. I have to think this one out. And maybe remove my feelings from the mix, and let Monkey make his choice.

The current look

Jack's long hair...looking a LOT like Shaun Cassidy
Alexa's Diva Ballerina stage

What about a compromise? A mohawk for two weeks or a month and then buzz it off?

That's a good idea, Angie.

I know what you mean about the stigma and all that. I don't think I'd be too jazzed about it, but I think I'd let Luke do it if he really wanted to. In fact, I'd do the honors and pull out the trimmer.

Well I am not too into it and maybe I should be more about letting them express themselves. So even though I would likely say no. I think two weeks and then a buzz sounds like a good middle spot.

Angie is a smart cookie! I'm going to pretend that I came up with that answer. Mine wasn't nearly as good.

By the way, is it bad that I totally dig Jack's long hair? He is CUTE!! And I love the Diva Ballerina...

OK cute style choices for both. i personally like a Mohawk. and Cut my then 7 year old's hair into one. he thought it was awesome afterward. i had to talk him into it. he wore it for a month or two and then we evened it up. I'll post pictures for you. i was surprised how much flack i caught about it though. and even reamed a sister in law about making snotty comments about my kids style choice.
it was shaved short with clippers on the side but was extra long on top and he could wear it combed over still. i'll find the picture. come see.

I was never allowed to express myself as a kid so I tend to be on the "let him do it" side. That being said, I think I would compromise and tell him that he can do it when school is out. I would tell him that it isn't a very appropriate school hair-do but its perfect for summer break. And then buzz it in time for the next year to start. Good luck!

Love all of the photos! Too cute!

I like Angie's comprise as well. I like Mohawks and think they look really cute on boys but a time limit means he gets it and you don't have to put up with it for very long.

Love your photo's - your kids are so cute!

Connie,
you might want to delete the post by "demuro"...its a virus spreader (if you click on the link). I like the "security center" jimmick, though. Very creative. Almost makes me want to click on it. NOT!
